Online Poker Glossary
Here is a glossary of terms used in poker.
All-in (stack) : Total of the chips that a player has at his disposal to bet. By extension we will say “go all-in”, which means betting all your remaining chips. You can possibly win part of the pot, up to the limit of your stake. You cannot win anything beyond this limit. The rest of the pot constitutes the additional bets (side-pot). Online, the player is also All-in when a player drops their connection to the server during the game.
Ante (Initial bet ) : Moderate entry fee to the pot, bet before receiving the cards by all players at the table (Small Blind and Big Blind included). It is a kind of tax allowing to receive kelab711 cards. We use antes in tournaments when the blinds start to get big.
Avatar: An avatar is the character or image that represents you in online poker.
Avg Pot : For “average pot”, which means “average pot” or “average pot”, this is the average amount of pots that are played at this table.
Away-From-Table : During online poker tournaments, the player is not allowed to leave his seat (sit out). If he leaves the table: the dealer however deals the cards to all the players. Whoever leaves the game table (Away-from-table) is simply forced to pay the blinds (forced bets) on each raise before the flop until he has no more chips. In tournament play, if the player has to leave the game, is late playing or loses his connection, it is automatically displayed Away-from-table.
Backdoor (From Behind) : Complete a hand with the last two cards dealt.
Bad Beat : losing hand that was a favorite before all the cards were dealt; it is a defeat in unusual circumstances.
Bankroll (Fund) : Amount of money available to play.
Bet The Pot : expression used in games with a limit bid (pot limit): the player’s stake corresponds to that of the total amount of the pot. So, if at the time of betting the pot reaches US $ 217 and the player decides to bet the entire pot, their stake is US $ 217.
Big Blind : In games using the blind, the big blind is generally equal to the minimum amount of bets in a game in progress. So, in a game between $ 5 and $ 10 in stakes, the big blind is equivalent to $ 5. The big blind follows the small blind, which is made by the first player to the left of the dealer.
Blind : The blind means a forced bet, there is a small blind (small blind) and the big blind (big blind). This forced starting bet in Hold’em and Omaha is made by the player immediately to the left of the dealer. The player still to the left of the latter bets the overblind (or Big Blind). These bets are made even before the cards are dealt. The Blinds rotate: each player is required to make a forced bet during a game.
Bluff : Consists of misleading opponents by bidding paradoxically in relation to the nature of his hand. Bluffing is not just about making it look like you have a better hand than you actually do, it can also be the other way around.
Board The Board designates cards returned to the table and common to players in Texas Hold’em and Omaha Hold’em.
Bring-in : required stake in ante-bet games, corresponding to half of the amount of the lower bet. The player with the minimum card (face up) is forced to bet either the minimum bet or the opening, in order to start the game.
Buddy List : In online poker, a feature that allows players to identify other players, with their permission. The contact list manager indicates which game table each of the contacts is on, thus making it easier for the player to recognize the partners with whom he wishes to play.
Burn : Before dealing any card, the dealer discards one (closed) which will compensate for any distribution or handling error.
Button ( Puck , Button) : corresponds to the symbol (puck indicating D (for dealer)) used to designate the dealer. It is a worthless chip which designates a fictitious dealer in parties where the dealer is immutable (in a circle, in a casino, in Internet poker, etc.). The button allows to designate a fictitious dealer, the players can thus know the place of the players who will have to put the blind and the overblind.
Buy-In (Cellar) : A minimum entry amount is required to be able to play at a game table. The buy-in is generally equivalent to 10 times the maximum bet allowed in a game. The cellar may vary according to the parties. All games require a buy-in, usually 10 times the amount of the big blind.
